Why our interlocking concrete Paver Patio installations or other Paver projects are better.

Questions you should be asking your installer:

Do you guarantee your work?
Our installations carry a 2 year guarantee against any settling or movement.

Will there be a certified ICPI Installer on site?
The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI) sets the national standards for the installation of pavers. We have a certified ICPI installer on all of our paver installations.

Will you be compacting the subgrade?
If the subgrade is not compacted it can lead to settlement this will cause the base to settle, in turn, causing a deformation in your paver surface.

Will you be installing a geotextile soil separation fabric?
All of the soil in our area is clay based. The ICPI recommends installing geotextile fabric in all clay soil applications. If soil is allowed to migrate into the aggregate base material this can cause the base material to absorb water and fail.

How thick of a base will you be installing and will you be compacting it in the proper lifts for your equiptment?
The ICPI recommends a minimum 4” of compacted aggregate base material. For applications where freeze thaw, or clay soil conditions apply, it is recommended to install 2-4 additional inches of base. If the base is not installed in the appropriate lifts for the compaction equipment being used, the base will not be fully compacted and may settle. We install a full 8” base in 3” lifts.

Will the top of your base be level?
-3/8 of an inch over 10’ is the ICPI standard for base preparation. A greater variation can
cause water to gather in these deformations and saturate the base. This may cause the base to settle and in turn cause a deformation in the paver surface, allowing more water to gather and eventually causing the installation to fail.

What material will you be using for bedding sand?
According to the ICPI the only acceptable bedding material is washed concrete sand
conforming to the ASTM C 33 standard. This material will allow water to drain through it. Stone dust, Screenings, or Mason sand will trap water in the setting bed and can cause
unevenness or a mushy feeling in the paver surface.

This is a brief description of the necessary requirements and procedures needed to install a quality interlocking paver patios. If you would like more information or details, please feel free to contact us or visit www.icpi.org.
